To me the great thing about hockey, is that it gives me the opportunity for a few hours a week to get on the ice with the boys and feign that im this killer hockey player. Like when  your a kid out on the street playing with your buddys pretending that its game 7 double ot and that you score the winning goal.
My dad got me into hockey when I was around 4 and half years old. He liked the Red Wings, growing up in La I liked the Kings. In fact I was a big Kelly Hrudey fan (There is a certain appeal to being a goalie when you are little). Then we went to a wings game when I was 6. I remember playing NHL game on sega before the game beating the Wings with the offsides off and boasting about it to my dad on the way to the Great Western Forum. He didnt say much, just pay attention and watch… and I did… I watched Yzerman score 2 goals and after that I was a Wings fan. It seems that this time of year I get bombarded with bandwagon comments… It doesn’t really bother me. My parents and sister watch the games, I have all my buddies over that want to root for the wings and we watch, cheer, and celly together when they score. Tonight when Cheli got that rush in ot I knew my dad would be losing his mind. At 55, Chelios is my dads hockey hero… I guess its hard to root for someone who is younger than you, and Cheli is an inspiration, I mean hes still in the show at 47 years old… if I can still play beer league at 47 I’ll be stoked. Afte the game my dad called me like always to recap some of the plays… he said, “I would of  text you but my fingers couldn’t go fast enough and then the game was over.” Maybe over the summer when Chelios is here I’ll to skate with him… my dad got ultra stoked when I mentioned it.
